Hello and Welcome!

Hello there! My name is Stephanie. Welcome to my first blog post.

Why is this blog called ‘The Urban Type’? Well its a bit of a play on words, firstly as this is a blog related to life in and around London (the ‘urban’ bit!) plus as it is typed on a computer, that is where the ‘type’ part comes in! Also, as I’m a Londoner, you could say I’m an ‘urban type’ of person!!

So, what will you find here? There will be quite a mix of topics from a Londoner/British point of view. Regarding food, I’m more vegan than vegetarian, so there will be talk about veggie food, recipes and veggie friendly places to eat in London.

I love theatre! So that will be a fun topic to explore. I have also worked in some of London’s theatres so I’ll be chatting about that too. Other topics will include television, film, clothes, interiors, beauty products, being a dog mum(!), being an 80’s kid in the UK, plus other kinds of Britishness!

I also have a love for the golden age of Hollywood, especially MGM movies and stars such as Gene Kelly and Ann Miller. I love that 1940s/1950s American style (the music, fashion, diners, cars). NYC is my favourite US city, even though I have some more to explore!

I’m also a freelance website designer and graphic designer, so I have an interest in the internet and any kind of art or design that uses a computer to create it. Over the years since having access to the internet I’ve created a few personal websites as I navigated the WWW and learnt how to make and maintain them, all of them have been fun but this is the first proper blog that I’ve started.

I’ve always loved writing from an early age, especially creative writing where I would write my own books, writing them on folded A4 paper with a couple of staples in the middle, complete with my own illustrated covers! Since getting my own access to the internet in 1999 (good old AOL dial-up!), I can’t imagine life without it now!!

‘The Urban Type’ has been on my mind to create for a couple of years now and finally I’m launching this blog on my birthday in lockdown (more about that in another post!). Hopefully you’ll enjoy these posts and keep visiting for more – there’s also a cheeky subscribe option (on mobile – see below, on desktop – scroll up a bit and you’ll find it in the right sidebar!).
